There are many of us who enjoy going to the beach, but at the same time we don't want to spend all our vacations lying on a lounger, reapliying sunscreen over and over again. That's why the city of Barcelona is such an interesting option.
The Catalan capital is an almost endless source of culture, leisure, nightlife and gastronomic options; and, apart from all that, it also has the beach (and it's also very close to some really beautiful beaches). Who wouldn't want to spend a few days in Barcelona? We do, and we'll share a list of the beaches that we like the most in Barcelona and its surroundings, including Sitges.
If we talk about beaches in Barcelona city, the Barceloneta beach and the Sant Sebastià beach in Ciutat Vella are the most popular without a doubt. There are plenty of things to do and you will not miss any service either. They are perfect to go with friends to have a good time.
But if you are looking for something more relaxed, we recommend you to go to other areas. In Barcelona, the quietest beaches you can find (as quiet as they can be in a big city) will probably be the Nova Icària and the Bogatell beach in Sant Martí and the Nova Mar Bella.
Oh! And for those who prefer to do nudism, you can go to the beach of Mar Bella, where there is an area where you can bathe naked.
Children often have a great time on the beach: swimming in the waves, making sandcastles, playing beach tennis... Very close to Barcelona city you have ideal beaches to go with your family and enjoy the perfect summer day.
About 20 minutes by train and 30 minutes by car from Barcelona, there is El Prat de Llobregat beach. A place where nature and the planes of the nearby airport create a truly special atmosphere. In addition, it is a quiet beach where you will find the Marine Life Recovery Centre, where the little ones can see sea turtles in recovery. Sounds good, right?
Another interesting option is the beach of Castelldefels, which is half an hour away from Barcelona. Its main attraction for families is that it's a beach with shallow waters, ideal for children. But there is more: fine sand, pleasant temperature and chiringuitos (beach bars). In fact, several of them offer entertainment for children with slides, areas to play, etc.
If you don't mind leaving Barcelona or even if you prefer to stay in Sitges, you can find fantastic beaches in this locality. This small coastal town, next to the Mediterranean Sea, has much to offer and one of those things, of course, are great beaches. We mention some of our favorites below.
If we continue with the family beaches, one of the most popular in Sitges is the beach of Sant Sebastià, between the old town and the marina, located east of the famous church of Sitges. La Ribera beach is one of the busiest. It is an urban beach, which has all the services you may need for a good day at the beach.
If you are into sports, your beach is Bassa Rodona, between La Ribera and Estanyol. It has the Club de Mar for practising water sports and is also one of the main "gay beaches" in Sitges and one of the most popular as well.
Finally, for those who prefer to do nudism, or go with people who practice it, we recommend the beach of Balmins de Sitges. It has three small coves that are located between the port and the urban center and all the necessary services.
It seems obvious that there isn't a lack of options to go the beach... and to stay either. With Uma Suites you can choose the apartment that best suits your needs and preferences for your holidays in Barcelona or Sitges.
