Jazz can be difficult to define. It's a family of many musical genres and it can be loved as well as misunderstood. Although, considering that the Voll-Damm Barcelona International Jazz Festival has been already playing for 30 years and it arrives to its 50th edition on 2018, perhaps jazz has more fans than it may seem.
This event has become a world reference among fans of this genre and every year it offers its fans a festival that includes both great jazz stars and interesting new proposals. In addition, the program of the event also includes lectures, master classes, meetings with artists and free concerts, which make this jazz festival a truly complete one. The Barcelona International Jazz Festival programme can be found on its official website.
This 50th edition of the festival offers shows and much more from September 29, when the activities begin (Jazz & Food, conferences, contests, etc.), until December 21, when the last concert is scheduled and it will be in charge of Charleston Gospel Voices.
Throughout these more than two and a half months, jazz fans will be able to enjoy concerts in different venues, inside and outside the city. In Barcelona, the chosen spaces are the Auditori del Fòrum, Sala BARTS, Conservatori del Liceu, Cotton Club - Casino Barcelona, Gran Teatre del Liceu, el Harlem Jazz Club, Luz de Gas, L'Auditori, Monvínic, Palau de la Música and Teatre Grec. Outside the capital, you can see concerts at the Teatre - Auditori Sant Cugat, just half an hour from Barcelona.
Although it's very difficult to choose, some of the most outstanding and anticipated performances would be: Chucho Valdés Jazz Bata (October 26 at the Palau de la Música), Avishai Cohen (on November 1 at the BARTS room), Madeleine Peyroux (on November 3 at the Palau de la Música), Mayte Martín (on November 13 in the BARTS room), Diego el Cigala (on November 14 at the Palau de la Música), Kyle Eastwood (on November 25 at the Teatre - Auditori Sant Cugat ) and Andrea Motis - Ignasi Terraza (December 12 at the Palau de la Música).
It seems clear that the Voll-Damm Barcelona International Jazz Festival is a must for music lovers and followers of this genre, but not everyone is lucky enough to live in Barcelona or surroundings to enjoy its programme with total freedom. If this is your case, we recommend that you make sure you have accommodation for your chosen dates.
At Uma Suites we have apartments in different locations of Barcelona, from the Barceloneta to the Eixample, and some of them are very close to some of the concert halls. In addition to this, by choosing one of our apartments in the Catalan capital, you can enjoy the festival without schedules. If you want to extend the night - and the morning, of course -, you can do it without worrying about losing your breakfast and, of course, you will feel at home. Uma Suites and ... All that Jazz!
