"Those who think that wine tourism is only for good wine lovers are not right". "Wine tourism is much more". We are informed at Sitges tourist office: "It gets you to know better an area, the landscapes, tours through the vineyards, getting to know their people and their stories".
There are many guides and tours. If you go to the information point at the city council, just in front of the train station, they will inform you on all of them, and they also have information leaflets with different adapted options, for families, couples or friend groups. There are so many good plans to enjoy the Garraf and inner areas that the difficulty comes to decide which one to take.
For instance, Agis Sitges, brings us a circular route. Covering different country houses from Sant pere de Ribes town. The Garraf area has plenty country houses (locally called Masias) from the beginning of the last century, in which their stones tell silent stories about the agricultural and winegrowing traditions of the area. They cover from Sitges to Sant Pere de Ribes, including a visit to the historical center, with the medieval castle (S XII). From the ancient historic quarter you can see the colorful vineyard landscapes. After a stroll you will enjoy the organic produced wines at Can Ramon and Vega de Ribes.
¿Which one is the typical wine in this route? Malvasia is the common grape in the Garraf area. Its wine is sweet and delicious. In general you will find more whites than red wines, and also wines to match with the desserts, very sweet ones and with high alcohol volume.
Moving a Little more towards the interior area, in Penedés Enoturismo, will offer you a variety of activities: cava and wine cellars experiences, vineyard activities, bicycle and walking tours through the vineyards… and many more that you can easily find in a complete map available at Sitges city council as well as in their website.
If you are coming to Sitges in October you will be able to enjoy the “verema” or the grape harvest. During a whole weekend there is a party organized by Torres y Foment de Turisme. The product of the grape pressings are offered during the Mass of the parish, and in the afternoon there is a contest on traditional grape treading.
Those are tours, encounters and excursions that will help you forget about the cellphone and enjoy ancient customs. Enjoy wine tourism in Garraf and discover the landscapes to see that another life is possible, the one that meets with our roots.
