Beyond Surf

Do you feel like learning to surf in Sitges? And what about learning to Yoga Paddle Surf in Barcelona? Have you ever wondered about what is needed to learn to Paddle Surf? In this post you’ll find some clues.

Nine thirty in the morning. San Sebastian Beach in Barcelona is empty, and a six pack people are going calmly to the sea with their board. They are not surfers –at least not all of them-, they reach the shore and enter to the sea, some of them squatting on the board, others standing on it, surfing the waves with their Paddle surf board.

This activity is called Sub Yoga, which is yoga sessions on the water, on a surf board. Pukkas is the school guiding this practice. For those that are not aware of Paddle Surf, or Sub Yoga, Pukkas is a shop and a school pioneer in surf sports, they were already teaching in the Basque Country on 1982. By then, the very same shopkeepers were running the shop in turns in order to teach surf and Paddle Surf.

Carolina is a Sub Yoga fan, «it is not a difficult practice. Even if you know nothing, you can start with Sub Yoga for a first contact with water» she tells us. She started by accident, a friend gifted her a session and now she practices it every summer.

«We meet every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and practice. Every session lasts for one and a half hour, and you feel the same as practicing Paddle Surf and Yoga, meaning that you stimulate and tone the muscles through the “asanas” or Yoga postures».

Schedules at Barcelona’s paddle Surf School Pukkas are from 9:30-10:30 am, or 18:00 to 19:00 pm. Classes are for not more than six people at the same time, and prices are very convenient. As the shop managers remind us: you don’t need any previous experience in Yoga or Paddle.
